Tonight we were watching a movie called, Taken. If you haven't seen it, it's about a girl and her friend who went on a trip to Paris and were followed by men who were targeting American female tourists. They would follow them, take them, drug them and turn them into prostitutes and even sell them. The girls were taken and one girl's father went to extreme measures to go to Paris, track her down and reclaim her. What really stood out to me was the drive this father had to get his daughter back. He stopped at nothing and there was plenty he had to go through.
This reminded me of what our Heavenly Father will do to reclaim one of His own as well. Our enemy targets us and takes us captive through sin in whatever form it may be... we are tortured in it and held captive... but God, our Father is there to fight for us and He is faithful to save us.
When the girl saw her father come into the room as she was being delivered to her "owner", she stood and said, "You came for me." She melted in His arms and He held her and comforted her.
What an awesome picture of what our Father wants for us as well... He stops at nothing to rescue and reclaim us.
Now imagine if the girl said to her dad, "No thanks, I'll stay here with this man"? That sounds absurd, yet when people choose to remain living in the sin they are in, this is basically what they are saying. Imagine the sadness the dad would feel knowing his daughter chose to stay when he was offering her her freedom. We probably can't even comprehend the sadness this same rejection causes our Heavenly Father when He has so much in store for us.
I am so thankful that I know the love that He has for me and that I know He is there to defend me and reclaim me from my enemy. And for those who do not... I will pray and stand in the gap.
