Luke 7:12-15
New Living Translation (NLT)
12 A funeral procession was coming out as he approached the village gate. The young man who had died was a widow’s only son, and a large crowd from the village was with her. 13 When the Lord saw her, his heart overflowed with compassion. “Don’t cry!” he said. 14 Then he walked over to the coffin and touched it, and the bearers stopped. “Young man,” he said, “I tell you, get up.” 15 Then the dead boy sat up and began to talk! And Jesus gave him back to his mother.
I love how God can take a scripture that I have read time after time and show me something totally new within it. This scripture is one of those. I have always read it and thought, "Wow, how great is it that Jesus healed this woman's son because He loved her that much!" And that is true, but what He showed me this time is even more personal... probably because it was just what I needed to hear at just the right time.
What I see here is that Jesus sees. He sees our hurt, pain and death and he has compassion for us; He suffers with us in our circumstance. Then He takes the next step and reaches out to touch it and speaks life into it, telling it to "get up!" He brings life!
Whether I am experiencing what seems to be the death of a dream or a relationship, (insert your own circumstance), Jesus sees. Whatever was part of me that the life has drained out of, He is able to restore! How great to know that I am not alone... there is one who understands completely and praise God, He brings life! Jesus is life!
