The Dark Side of the Pancake
A few nights ago all four of us were sitting in our bedroom winding down the night. We always just talk about this and that before we pray together. Aaron usually keeps us pretty entertained at this time with his stories and jokes... he's so much like Clint! So anyway, back to the subject... Clint has this knack for taking almost any subject or event and coming up with a spiritual lesson out of it and for some reason that became the topic. He then mentioned that even a pancake could have a spiritual lesson behind it and then backtracked and said, "Well, no probably not a pancake." After a brief pause, Aaron chimes in and says that yes, it could. He went on to say that a pancake represents a person's life... that some pancakes have a darker side to others if not cooked perfectly... this darker side is one that we tend to put face down so no one sees, much like we do with the sin in our lives... what we show to others is the nice, golden, fluffy side of the pancake that looks so appetizing. We are showing off only what we want others to see and hiding what we know is not good and that we then take syrup and try to cover it up even more.
Wow, how true is that?
He was just so matter of fact about what he was saying that I couldn't help but chuckle about it at first, but at the same time, I was struck by the wisdom behind it.
I have prayed since the kids were little that God would give them wisdom beyond their years and it is so encouraging when I see this happen. God is faithful.
"For the Lord grants wisdom! From His mouth come knowledge and understanding!" Proverbs 2:6
