Trust & Obey...

...for there's no other way to be happy in Jesus is to trust and obey.

Proverbs 16:20- "Those who listen to instruction will prosper; those who trust the Lord will be joyful."

I remember days growing up and the joy of being a kid. I remember trips to the park, bike rides, running through sprinklers, trips to the local pool, collecting lizards, counting fireflies and on and on. I really had no worries... why? Because I trusted in my parents and their care for me. I knew that I was safe. I knew I was loved. I knew I had nothing to fear. Listening to instruction wasn't always easy nor, did I want to always obey, but I did because I trusted them. Now when I became a teenager, that was a different story. I no longer completely obeyed or trusted in their instruction and what happened? I made my own choices which resulted in worry and stress and pain. Gone were days of flying kites and feeling free.

How much does this remind me of my walk with God? When I try to make decisions on my own and allow the circumstances of my life and surroundings to dictate how I respond, then there is worry and stress. However, when I listen to His instruction and then put my trust completely in the Lord and lean not on my own ability, then joy floods in, no matter what everything else looks like. If I listened to and trusted my earthly father as much as did when I was a child then why not trust my Heavenly Father even more so. I can be sure that in His instruction, there is purpose and freedom. He is worthy of my obedience and trust and He is able to bring complete joy.

So now, where is that kite?
