In the bathroom, drinking my Diet Coke, drying my hair, ipod turned up loud so I can hear it, singing along with a song...
You are my strength, Strength like no other, Strength like no other, Reaches to me
You are my hope, Hope like no other, Hope like no other, Reaches to me
In the fullness of Your grace, In the power of Your Name, You lift me up, You lift me up
Unfailing love, Stronger than mountains, Deeper than oceans, Reaches to me
Your love O Lord reaches to the heavens, Your faithfulness reaches to the skies
You are my hope, Hope like no other, Hope like no other, Reaches to me
In the fullness of Your grace, In the power of Your Name, You lift me up, You lift me up
Unfailing love, Stronger than mountains, Deeper than oceans, Reaches to me
Your love O Lord reaches to the heavens, Your faithfulness reaches to the skies
What great words. How uplifting they are to me.... to Me.
But my heart quickly felt heavy when I thought of all the orphan children who probably feel pretty weak, whose hope is almost lost and who don't experience much love, if any at all. I suddenly thought that if these words are true and God is strength, hope and love (which I do know is true), then how do these children who need so desperately, receive? And I was drawn back to this word in the song: "reaches".
To reach means: to stretch out - to strain after - to arrive at or come to something.
It can be difficult to reach out sometimes - to stretch and strain doesn't always sound pleasant - but when we do, I can't imagine there being a greater joy than knowing we showed strength, hope, love to a child.
Reaches through us... through me... to them.
I am His arms to reach those who need Him.
"Moved with compassion, Jesus reached out..." Mark 1:41
